On
28th August 1986 a very special filly was born. She belonged to
our neighbours, and being a horse mad child without
a horse of my own, this was the next best thing. I
would sneak out and go next door to spend hours
playing with this, then 2yo Filly. One day the
neighbours announced they were selling Abby
and a string of begging and promises to always feed
and brush her followed. Needless to say my parents
made me the happiest and luckiest girl on Earth when
they bought her for me. After 4 years of waiting to
have her broken in I decided to take matters into my
own hands and do it myself. We already had an
amazing bond and I cant explain how it happened, it
just did. I put the saddle on, then the bridle,
mounted and we were off and never looked back. We
joined the local Orange Grove Pony Club. Showjumping
and games were our speciality.
Eventually we were
jumping the clubs maximum height of 3'6" and were
unbeatable. The highest we jumped in a Presaunce was
4'9". We competed in the PCAWA state championships
in Dressage, Novelties, PPMG and Showjumping. With
too many wins to mention our highlight was our team
winning the Aust Stockhorse event Showjumping at the
State championships. With a cabinet full of trophies
Abby is now
retired and enjoying the rest of her days with her
family and friends. Unfortunately Abbey never gave
us a foal, after many years of trying. If I won
lotto, I would do everything I possibly could to get
a foal from her, not only because of her now very
old and hard to come by pedigree but also because
she was such a great performance horse. |
